Mask Acne ( Maskne) | It’s prevention and treatment at home| Personal Experience

Mask acne is an Acne mechanic that is caused due to pressure, congestion, heat, and rubbing against the skin.

It damages our skin layer and it may turn out harmful than the usual acne. And, now that the summers are high up, the effect can be adverse.

Thanks to Covid_19, we have been wearing this mask for a long time now and especially the health care workers.

By this, we are letting the sweat be on our skin for a long time and we can evident breakouts in the form of irritation, redness, bumps, and pimples on that part of our face.

well, at first I didn’t know there is some theory of maskne and thought it is because of some skincare mistake or they are just hormonal change breakouts.

Later when the problem kept increasing only in the mask part of my skin, I finally realized it’s because of the face mask. And, I started digging way deeper into the history, geography, and physics of these mask acne.

With all my research, and few skincare steps and preventions I was able to cure my maskne and prevent from getting it again.

Several ways how I treated my Mask Acne:

Cleansing

Cleanse at least twice and don’t use a harsh cleanser. A light cleansing gel can be used.

And, if it still irritates your skin then skip all the cleansers and just wash your face with hot water or oats water.

And, Try cleaning your face as soon as you take out the mask.

Avoid makeup

When we add layers of foundation and make-up creams to our skin before wearing masks, they tend to clog our pores.

It makes your skin more suffocated.

Apply Moisturizers

Use moisturizers as they tend to act as a barrier between the skin and the mask. But avoid using any moisturizers with fragrance and thick concentration.

Pamper your skin

A gentle massage using an essential oil especially tea tree oil works great for acne-prone skin.

Give your face a steam treatment as it helps in removing the acne-causing bacteria and germs from the skin by opening the pores.

sheet Masks are a good help to pamper your skin. Invest in detox sheet masks as they hydrate and nourish the skin.

Face serum

Include serums especially Vitamin C and Hyaluronic acid. In my last blog post, I wrote on why you should include serum in your skincare regime. It was a helping hand in my treating of the mask acne and other skin issues.

Hydrate your skin

Dryness can adverse the effects of acne and it will increase skin irritation. Apply toner and use mists. And, drink lots of water and healthy juices.

Clean Mask

if you are using surgical masks, it’s advisable to dispose of them after every use. But, if you are using cloth masks or re-usable masks, wash them frequently. Always keep your masks clean and hygienic.

Face wipes

If you have to use masks for a long time and you are sweating too much, try using face wipes. These help in cleaning the face and reduces bacteria accumulation.

Natural ways to treat Mask Acne

Use several natural cooling and anti-inflammation agents to soothe and calm your skin.

  • Aloe Vera Ice cubes – Mix 2 tablespoons of natural Aloe-Vera gel with water and freeze them. You can use them whenever you are feeling dryness, itchiness, or any skin irritation. It provides a cool sensation to your skin.
  • Curcumin – Cold Milk + Turmeric. This mixture helps in reducing inflammation as they are anti-bacterial.
  • Oatmeal – Oatmeal is the most recommended natural treatment for mask acne. oatmeal has anti-oxidant properties and helps to reduce skin irritation and reduce bacterial problems.

Other ways

You can use several products available in the market especially for mask acne-like retinol and salicylic acid.

Finally, I would say yes! A lot of us do get mask acne and skin problems due to masks but not wearing masks is never an option, we are not over Covid yet.

We can instead prevent our skin from being bait to mask acne. Prevention is always better than cure. Follow the above steps, has worked for me and I have seen a lot of other people getting rid of maskne with similar treatment. Hopefully, it will work for you too.
