Do you mind upcycling your wardrobe? Or would you like to have a take on the pre-loved clothing? Well! If yes. First, we need to have a better clue about the word ‘thrifting’. As it is having a rising hype after all.
The harmful fast fashion, the costly branded clothing, and the love for sustainable clothing are the helping hands for the increasing thrifts.
Thrifting refers to the shopping one does at the Thrift stores, take-2 stores, and flea markets. These are the shops selling second-hand and upcycled clothes at a price lower than the actual cost.
Why Thrifting?
– Fast fashion has devastated the state of textile industries, increased the level of pollution, and has lead to a decrease in the living standards of the back-end workers.
– With the spreading awareness of these flaws of fast fashion, the need and essence of a sustainable wardrobe are hyping in the thoughts of people.
-Thrifting is environmentally friendly. And, hence helps in reducing the waste which we usually create by throwing our old clothes. It helps to create a new look for our wardrobe, with both not affecting our style statements and pocket pressure.

-If you want to flaunt a new look with a new garment every day, it might lead to a sound effect on your savings. But with thrifting, you can make this happen as it helps to buy high-end branded clothes at half-price. And, if your stars are shining bright, you can get the products for lower than the half-prices.
-Do you ever feel like transforming and re-designing any of your clothes or other products? If yes, the local thrift store is a gateway for finding the best-required materials for your master plan of DIY.
-Sometimes, thrift stores have unique, ancient, and antique products that we no longer find in other markets.
-A wide range of products is sold in several styles. Hence, thereby offer a platter filled with different choices to the people.
-Thrifting also gives rise to several new businesses. People buy products at a lower price from these stores. And, later sell at a comparatively higher price to the consumers.
Why some thrift stores are expensive?
- You might see some thrift stores to be costly. Well! that may be because:
- The clothes you searched are sold for some charitable and non-profitable cause.
- The rising fame of thrifting has caught the attention of a large number of thrift sellers. And, hence for having an increased margin of profit, the sellers are increasing the price.
- The clothes may be from a high-to-end brand. And, selling at half-price may also seem to be costly.
- Increasing demand for sustainable clothing and improving the environmental conditions imposes a great hype for thrift stores. This demand might subsequently lead to more demand and less supply situation. Thereby, leading to increased prices of the products.
My Thrift stories
Okay so now! You might be wondering why I’m imparting so much information about thrifts. Well! I’m going to share a series of thrift outfits using my dad’s closet that I created with the help of my mom’s sewing skills.
So, being a nice kid to mother earth, I thought of thrifting and upcycling my clothes. My clothes stocked-up in my hostel is also a reason, though!
The upcoming week hence is going to be about thrifts, upcycled, and re-created looks.
And I understand we can’t always upcycle the clothes on our own. So, I’m searching for a list of thrift stores, both shipping to India and worldwide. And, will be sharing them with you after the series ASAP!
Excited, hope you like it.
